As many of you know, my last book, Three Little Birds, was all about challenging yourself and seizing the day. I am delighted to report that many who have read the book have been motivated to take up new challenges and to ‘seize the day’.
One of the challenges in Three Little Birds – a dive with sharks- is one that Charlie, the protagonist, fears the most for reasons that become apparent in the story. Not many people would be happy to dive with sharks but Charlie has more reason than most to be terrified of such a proposition. The shark dive takes place at the Blue Planet Aquarium at Ellesmere Port. When I was invited to do a shark dive and book signing there my immediate reaction was to say,”No thanks.” However, I gave it a lot of thought and decided that I would do it but only if I did it for charity and one that was had relevance to my life and the book – The Back Up Trust.
Back Up’s services help inspire people to transform their lives following a spinal cord injury. These services include wheelchair skills sessions, a mentoring programme, and rehabilitative courses.
Back Up is a national charity that has helped thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds rebuild their confidence and independence following a devastating spinal cord injury.
Their wheelchair skills training, mentoring service and rehabilitative activity courses are all run by people who have a spinal cord injury themselves. They also support people to overcome the challenges of returning to work or school.
On the 19th October, I am going to the Blue Planet aquarium to dive with the sharks. I’m not sure if I’m more frightened of the tank or of squeezing myself into a wetsuit. All proceeds from the sales of books on the day, and any donations, will go directly to the charity. I am also asking for your support by either purchasing a copy of Three Little Birds this month as all royalties will go to the charity, or donating some money to my Just Giving Page. Every pound is important and will change lives so please, please donate, even if it is one pound.
Thank you all very much indeed. I hope I can raise my target which is £200.
Photos will follow, of course. That is if I haven’t vetoed them all, or been eaten by a shark.
