There are some books you just wish you had written. This is one of them. Janice Horton’s latest book How To Party Online is one of those really useful books that is jam packed full of advice for writers or anyone who wants to host an online party.
Why host a party? Because it is a sure fired way of attracting new followers, making new friends and if you have just launched a book, getting new readers. Like Janice, I have hosted some successful parties (who could forget the Mini Skirts competition or fishducky walking around all night in the chatroom wearing a lampshade?) The parties have been hugely successful and we have all had a ball.
Janice’s parties have trumped my own. I have attended a couple of them and they have been brilliantly executed. In this new book, she draws on her own experience and manages to simplify the entire experience, so you too can host the perfect party (and hopefully propel your new book into the charts). Her advice is sound and she illustrates her points with gentle humour and some super photographs.
This is one of those’ How To’ books that stands out, thanks to the friendly writing style. You end up feeling that you have been having a chat with a friend and come away inspired.
If you buy one ‘How To’ book this year, make sure it is this one. You will not be disappointed and I have every confidence that after reading it, you’ll be able to enjoy similar success to that enjoyed by Janice.
I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of this book and picked up so many tips that I shall be hosting another party next month to launch How Not to Murder Your Grumpy, so come on…get planning. Let’s party!

5.0 out of 5 stars Party time! May 8, 2013
I am such a fan of Janice Horton’s work and I was hugely interested when I was alerted to the fact that she was writing a new book called How To Party Online. This is not a work of fiction but an invaluable guide on how to promote your book in the wonderful virtual world that is the Internet.I really wish I had read this book before hosting my very first Giveaway. It is full of valuable tips on how to promote your product. The handy tips could be used to promote any product, not just books. In the book, Janice takes us through each of the planning stages of all her virtual book promotions and points out that you don’t have to have much, if any, experience of hosting your own online parties and promotions. Janice herself was a novice when she first began and after attending a couple of her online parties I can safely say that Janice hosts one mean party! The book sets out in easy to follow steps how to prepare for your party and engage your audience. As a blogger, I have found a few things in this book that I will be using to promote my blog and prepare for my next giveaway.Janice’s parties are fun, inventive and has those elements that are vital for promotion – reader participation and heaps of fun! From the perspective of a book blogger I was thrilled to read in the book this invaluable advice that Janice offers to other authors – ‘….most book blogger reviewers read and review books as a hobby and, although they appreciate receiving review copies free of charges from authors and publishers, they do not get paid for their honest reviews and often have to fit in reading time in and around working full time.’ Well said that woman! This is such a handy little book that I devoured in one sitting and have lots of notes highlighted throughout. I’m off to check out a few things mentioned in the book. Thanks Janice!

This book explains, step-by-step, how to prepare for a book launch and do it with style! Whether you are a complete novice, or you already have a book out there and have dabbled with marketing, Janice Horton’s detailed guidance will help you achieve a party to be remembered for that next launch. What I particularly liked about this book is the style in which it’s written and the fact that there is a timeline to the planning. As an author myself, I know how crucial it is to plan well in advance but sometimes it’s difficult to get your head around the order in which you need to do your planning. To make it simpler, Janice introduces a week-by-week `Behind the scenes’ list of the steps required, using her own real-life parties as an example. This is practical guidance, easy to follow and whilst marketing is hard work, the focus must firmly be on ensuring those who take part have fun! So find out how to make your online party one people will want to join and take an active part in to celebrate your new release.
